Abstract
A virtual rate control (VRC) algorithm for active queue management (AQM) to regulate the queue length with small variation and to achieve high utilization with small packet loss was discussed. It was found that the marking probability of the algorithm was primarily proportional to the queue occupancy rate for fast response to traffic fluctuation. The analysis showed that the performance of the VRC was better in comparison to other AQM schemes such as random early detection (RED) and random exponential marking (REM) algorithms.
