Abstract

A new organic CLC system named 'multi-CLC system' was introduced inside the resonator with single-pitched polymer CLC (PCLC) films and PVA films. The system simultaneous produce red, green, blue reflections, or multiple multiple photonic band gaps (PBGs). The system was developed with defect structures by inserting a isotropic polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) into two PCLC films with low reflectance and wide PBGs. The reflectance of the system can be increased by stacking the unit structures into a multilayer. The system also provide excellent control over reflectance, spectral position, width of the multiple PBGs, and number of PBGs by controlling fabrication parameters including order of the multi-CLC system, the optical width, and the thickness of PCLC layers. This optical device can be used for various applications including laser technology, laser display, and optical storage media.
