Abstract
The complex perovskite (SrLa)(MgMo)O6 has been prepared at 1 350°C under a flowing nitrogen atmosphere. The crystal system is cubic with a unit cell parameter of a0 = 7.932(1) Å. The i.r. spectrum shows two strong absorption bands at 606 and 380 cm-1, respectively, which are due to 2T1u modes of molybdenum octahedra MoO6 in the crystal lattice. The compound shows paramagnetic behaviour following the Curie-Weiss law below room temperature with an effective magnetic moment of 1.72(1) μB, which is consistent with that of the spin-only value (1.73 μB) for Mo5+ (4d1 electronic configuration).
