Abstract
By analyzing the dynamic behaviors in coupled chaotic oscillators with slight parameter mismatch, the whole transition route to phase synchronization (PS) was completed. It was found that there exists a special locking regime called periodic phase synchronization (PPS) in which a temporary phase-locking (TPL) state shows maximal periodicity and that the periodicity leads to local negativeness in one of the vanishing Lyapunov exponents. A qualitative description of this phenomenon was also made with the nonuniform oscillator model in the presence of noise. Investigating the characteristics of TPL states between nonsynchronization and PS, the transition route before PS was clarified.
