Abstract
The authors have observed a route to chaos in an acousto-optically modelocked Ti:sapphire laser. In the experiment stable modelocked laser pulses develop into chaos through quasiperiodicity and doubling of torus as the cavity length is detuned. This phenomenon provides a route to chaos in a modelocked laser.
