Abstract

The noble prize: Various noble metals can be dissolved in organic solutions with high dissolution rates under mild conditions by using thionyl chloride (SOCl₂) and organic solvents/reagents (pyridine, N,N- dimethylformamide, and imidazole). Varying the composition of the solvent and reaction conditions even allows the selective dissolution of noble metals (see picture).
