Abstract
We find that when a cw Nd: YAG laser generates a complex multi-transverse-mode pattern, some laser spots in the pattern are operated intermittently. We study the intermittent generation of the laser spots and find that the laser spots are off-axis modes. Through an analysis of the probability distribution of the length of the laser-off state, we find that the phenomenon is on-off intermittency.
