Abstract

In this paper, we analyze and simulate the performance of space time block code-ultra wide band (STBC-UWB) systems employing a double binary turbo coding scheme in multiple access (MA) and multi-user interference (MUI) environments. Both binary pulse position modulation-time hopping (BPPM-TH) and binary pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (BPAM-DS) UWB systems are considered. Wireless channel is modeled a modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model. In order to apply the STBC scheme to the UWB systems, the Alamouti algorithm for real-valued signals is employed. The system performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. From the simulation results, we can demonstrate that the double binary turbo coding and STBC schemes are very effective in increasing the number of simultaneous users for a given bit error probability requirement in MA and MUI environments..
