Abstract
For human factors research in a highly automated vehicle, a system monitoring both driver’s behavior and the vehicle surround at the same time is recommended. In this paper, a cost-effective driver behavior monitoring tool for automated vehicle research was proposed. The vehicle states, surround objects data, and driver-monitoring video were synchronized and obtained via smart phone successfully. Multiple video sources were added to the computer-based research tool. Case studies show proposed research tool can be applied to monitoring driving behaviors and designing automated vehicle control systems.
