Abstract

We have been studying LiSAF laser by pumping with a pulsed dye laser in the absorption bands around 640 nm and 440 run in an effort to understand the pumping mechanism in flashlamppumped tunable LiSAF lasers, and to simulate the high power diode pmpued LiSAF laser. Also, we have measured by a pump-probe experiment the cross section for excited state absorption (ESA) in LiCAF and LiSAF in the visible range. The ESA cross section at 520 nm was measured to be 3xl0-20 cm2 for Cr3+:LiSrAlF6 and 1.2xl0-20 cm2 for Cr3+:LiCaAlF6,.
