Abstract

In this paper, a novel propulsion mechanism for a robotic fish is proposed and analyzed. This actuator for a robotic fish has been devised to realize a spanwise traveling wave motion, which often can be observed in several fish. To do this, a wave machine actuator is proposed, composed of a flexible plate, subfins and membrane.
