Adaptive Jamming Considering Location Information Inaccuracy for Anti-UAV System

Abstract

The safety threat caused by malicious UAV poses the necessity of the anti-UAV systems. The anti-UAV systems consist of surveillance for detecting UAV and countermeasure system for preventing UAV behaviour. One of the prospective countermeasure methods is a jamming technique, which disrupts malicious UAV communications. The jamming performance can be enhanced by employing multi-antennas based beamforming with concentrating signal power to the direction of a malicious UAV. To radiate directive jamming signal toward the malicious UAV, the anti-UAV system uses the location information of UAV detected by the surveillance system. However, because of the UAV characteristics such as the small size and high mobility, it is difficult to obtain accurate location information. Such inaccuracy may cause jamming performance degradation due to the misalignment between directive jamming signal and malicious UAV. In this paper, we propose an anti-UAV system that compensates for the inaccuracy of location information by adapting the main-lobe beamwidth of the jamming signal. We evaluate the jamming performance of the proposed anti-UAV system depending on the location information inaccuracy with simulation.
