Research Interests

- Brain interfaces to study brain functions and to develop brain-machine interface (BMI) and electroceutical devices
- Peripheral nerve interfaces for neurally-controlled robotic arms with sensory feedback
- Implantable magnetic stimulation to modulate brain functions and to treat neurological disorders
- Stretchable and wearable sensors for bio-signal detection and monitoring
- Zebrafish EEG recording for new drug screening and development

Major Research Achievements

- Introduced microfluidic channels to the 3-dimensional microelectrode array comprising a collection of microneedles positioned perpendicular to the array base, for the first time ("A 3D flexible neural interface based on a microfluidic interconnection cable capable of chemical delivery," Microsystems & Nanoengineering, 2021, IF=8.006)
- Developed a system to record brain activities from multiple adult zebrafish simultaneously, for the first time ("An EEG system to detect brain signals from multiple adult zebrafish," Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2020, IF=12.545)
- Developed a technique to selectively bond PDMS and parylene-C by plasma treatment, with which 2D structures fabricated on a 2D plane can easily be transformed into 3D structures by fluid injection, for the first time ("Transformation of 2D Planes into 3D Soft and Flexible Structures with Embedded Electrical Functionality," ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2019, Supplementary Cover Article, IF=10.383)
